Position Summary
Scoopers at Salt & Straw create happiness through moments of wonder by offering unparalleled guest experiences. They guide guests on taste adventures, sampling and scooping ice cream while narrating the journey to create OMG moments. Scoopers foster a welcoming environment and contribute to Salt & Straw's legendary hospitality and its status as a community favorite.
Essential Functions
- Interact with guests throughout their visit with patience, positivity, and enthusiasm at arrival, while they wait, at the point of sale, and during checkout to ensure a memorable experience.
- Maintain an understanding of Salt & Straw's brand, production techniques, partnerships with ingredient suppliers, and seasonal/classic flavor profiles to educate guests and provide recommendations.
- Scoop the correct portions according to shop standards, often working in intervals of 1-2 hours during a shift.
- Process transactions using the POS system, handle cash, and ensure accurate change.
- Prepare, label, and store waffle batter; operate the waffle iron to make cones; label and store cones; maintain a clean front-of-house waffle station.
- Adhere to shop, food quality, and safety standards including dishwashing, preparing products per recipes, cleaning areas, and organizing stock.
- Replenish retail products, restock freezers, paper goods, waffle batter, cones, and other supplies.
- Consolidate ice cream tubs, restock from the walk-in freezer, and temper tubs correctly.
- Pack Third-Party Delivery orders by following company standards, ensuring items are correctly portioned, packaged, and labeled.
- Answer phones promptly and provide excellent service for product inquiries.
- Greet guests, manage the flow of the line, explain shop options, and promote online ordering and pint purchases.
- Taste or sample a scoop daily to better communicate flavor highlights to customers.
Qualifications
- Valid food handler's card (required within 30 days of start or per local requirements).
- Experience in food service, fast-casual dining, or hospitality preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to learn and discuss classic and seasonal flavors and give samples confidently.
- Excellent communication and a commitment to Legendary Hospitality in interactions with team members, guests, and vendors.
- Passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and identities; work well in a team; stay positive under pressure.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a hands-on approach.
- English fluency; ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; minimum of 3 shifts per week, including 2 closing shifts.
