Job Description :

As the Associate Director of Chapel, this position directly impacts the spiritual life goals of the university. They would provide key spiritual leadership for students through their leadership of the chapel program. This includes spiritual mentorship, pastoral care, and teaching.

This position works under the guidance of the Director of Student Convocation in providing the chapel program at Pepperdine University. This includes planning and organizing the Core Chapels, managing the Connection Chapels, coordinating efforts with RISE and other campus partners, and providing spiritual leadership for the first and second year students.

Duties
  • Oversee the implementation of Connection Chapels. This includes developing policy, recruiting facilitators, integrating RISE into the program, and creating assessment tools to gauge effectiveness of the Connection Chapel program.
  • Oversee the direction of Social Media strategy to promote Core Chapels, Connection Chapels, and all other Chapel events throughout the year. This includes creating content for Instagram and other social media platforms, creating a strategic schedule for regular posting, and assessing the effectiveness of the social media strategy.
  • Oversee the hiring and supervision of student workers as well as provide spiritual leadership and mentorship to the students, lead weekly devotionals and provide pastoral care when needed.
  • Provide spiritual leadership for first and second year students, assist students in understanding resources on campus, and provide pastoral care as needed.
  • Participate in professional staff development, attend/make presentations at professional conferences, and university events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold university mission through work performed.
Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree, 2+ years experience with ministry leadership in higher education. Ability to integrate Christian faith with student development theories and practices; excellent interpersonal, public relations, and organizational skills; proven maturity in Christian faith that allows for staff to student mentoring; ability to work independently and as a member of the team; superior attention to detail in regards to finances and budget management; demonstrated ability to interact with students effectively. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), Google Suite (Docs, Drive, Sheets, Forms, etc.).

Preferred: Masters level theological education, 2+ years experience working with student leaders in a college setting. Current membership in, or previous association with the Churches of Christ. Ability to integrate Christian faith with student development theories and practices; experience teaching and facilitating leadership training, leading Bible studies and providing guidance and pastoral care. Familiarity with OU Campus, attendance tracking software, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Canva, and Qualtrics.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position, 11 month per year position.

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
