The Director of Quality is a hands-on leader responsible for the leadership and harmonization of the quality function across all product design and manufacturing sites. This role defines, articulates, and executes a consistent set of quality policies, metrics, and reporting processes through local quality assurance teams with the support of local general managers. The unification of quality practices must consider the unique differences in manufacturing processes at various locations while incorporating best-in-class practices, policies, and procedures.

The Director of Quality must work with local managers to assess quality systems, identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, and support talent and systems to achieve corporate quality standards and objectives. The role also consolidates and reports quality metrics for the enterprise across all product lines. Local quality management reports solid line to local general managers and dotted line (indirect) to the Director of Quality.

Job Function (day-to-day Responsibilities)Technical Quality
  • Identify and drive unified quality procedures and compliance projects at all sites, ensuring consistency and best practices while adapting to product and manufacturing process differences. All processes and products must meet high internal standards and regulatory requirements and deliver high-quality, cost-effective products to customers.
  • Ensure all quality systems across manufacturing sites are in full regulatory compliance and aligned with corporate quality policies.
  • Establish corporate guidelines for quality data collection and reporting; provide technical direction and support for implementation of data collection, metrics analysis, trending, and reporting in accordance with these guidelines.
  • Assess, analyze, and work with local general managers to ensure QA responsibilities (training, investigations, complaints, change control, document control, incoming inspection, manufacturing/lab oversight, failure analysis) are implemented and maintained in compliance with corporate policies and programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and electromagnetic components and systems; PCB technologies; semiconductors; Analog, RF, Microwave, and mmWave technologies and products; and the ability to drive resolution of related quality issues.
  • Maintain an independent role in supporting compliance-related decisions.
Supplier Quality
  • Implement strategies to drive supplier performance improvement; address supplier quality issues with urgency, ensuring containment, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and validation.
  • Lead supplier quality activities (QIPs, supplier audits) and partner with Strategic Sourcing on supplier initiatives.
  • Ensure supplier capabilities meet required quality standards for new product initiatives; ensure major suppliers have effective Quality Management Systems.
  • Develop process capabilities (supplier qualification/onboarding, product qualification, non-conforming material, process audits) and implement quality tools across the supply base (APQP, PPAP, FMEA).
  • Meet or exceed annual supplier quality objectives; manage supplier quality budget and forecasts.
Leadership
  • Develop, implement, and communicate a clear strategic vision for site quality to maximize alignment, engagement, and performance.
  • Lead the quality leadership team; provide input and direction to programs, policies, and plans.
  • Lead reviews of customer-quality contractual requests; demonstrate ability to lead high-performing cross-functional teams.
  • Coach and develop direct and indirect reports with ongoing feedback, performance reviews, and development opportunities; manage performance issues consistently and timely.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional organizations (business lines, sales, marketing, supply chain, operations) and lead organizational change to adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Deliver quality presentations at management reviews.
Education
  • BSEE, BSME, Business, Manufacturing, Operations or related field required; MSEE / MBA preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in manufacturing quality (electronics preferred); exposure to diverse quality and reliability roles in a manufacturing environment; experience with enterprise software for supply chain.
  • ISO 9001/AS9001 experience preferred.
  • Strong product qualification knowledge (DFMEA, PFMEA) and reliability problem-solving (8D, Gage R&R, SPC, 5 Why).
  • Proven leader capable of driving change and implementing sustainable quality systems in a complex operation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; hands-on when needed; sensitivity to cultural differences.
