Overview

Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) is seeking a tech-savvy, creative Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications to lead and execute integrated marketing strategies that support the schools goals in enrollment, reputation-building, and community engagement. This is a highly collaborative role that blends big-picture strategy with hands-on implementation. The Assistant Director partners closely with the Assistant Dean of Marketing and works across BUSSW and with central university depts. to amplify the schools visibility, strengthen its brand, and attract prospective students. A key focus of the role is leading multi-platform digital campaigns that drive enrollment and position BUSSW as a leader in social justice, education, advocacy & research. Ideal candidates bring a mix of strategic thinking, expertise in digital marketing and content creation, and project leadership skills. Success requires initiative, creativity, and a data-informed approach, along with the ability to work proactively with internal and external stakeholders.

As the Assistant Director, you\'ll raise our profile and increase engagement among donors, academic peers, alumni, and policymakers; attract prospective students; and build community at BUSSW and in the greater social work community. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Marketing, Communications & Strategic Initiatives, this full-time hybrid role is based on BU\'s Boston campus and offers a competitive benefits package, including tuition remission.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute integrated marketing strategies to support enrollment, reputation-building, and community engagement.
  • Develop multi-platform digital campaigns and content that position BUSSW as a leader in social justice, education, advocacy and research.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and central university departments to amplify visibility and strengthen brand.
  • Lead project teams, manage timelines, and monitor performance metrics using data-informed insights (SEO, Google Analytics, CRM).
  • Guide multimedia campaigns including photography, videography, graphic design, and content creation using Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva.
  • Oversee communications with donors, alumni, academic peers, and policymakers; grow prospective student engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in communications, marketing, or related field; minimum five years of related experience.
  • Proven success as a digital marketer using social media and digital advertising platforms to drive demand generation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, HTML, and MailChimp (or similar).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to write, edit, and produce compelling content.
  • Experience creating multimedia campaigns; familiarity with Sprinklr or similar social media management.
  • Knowledge of SEO, CRM operations, Google Analytics; ability to analyze data and trends.
  • Strong project management and leadership experience; ability to work cross-functionally and independently.
  • Photography and videography editing skills; hands-on graphic design experience (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) or Canva.
  • Ability to initiate and manage projects independently and in teams; strong presentation skills.
