Overview
Director of Compensation at Rochester Institute of Technology. The next Director will provide visionary, proactive leadership for RIT's staff compensation function, drive transformation of compensation programs, support the Workday implementation, and lead executive and faculty compensation initiatives. The role leads a high-performing team of three analysts.
Job Summary
The Director will contribute to an evolving workforce strategy, steward Staff Career Architecture, and partner with HR colleagues and senior leaders to ensure cohesive, aligned policies and programs. Reporting to the AVP and CHRO and serving on the HR leadership team, the Director will provide strategic insight to shape equitable, future-ready staff compensation solutions aligned with institutional goals.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide proactive, forward-thinking leadership of RIT\'s staff compensation function, including development and implementation of compensation policies that address complex organizational needs.
- Steward ongoing Staff Career Architecture, enhance job classifications, career pathways, and compensation structures to support development and retention.
- Oversee Workday implementation related to compensation processes, job data, and structures; manage pay programs (base pay and applicable incentives) with market data and internal analytics.
- Lead and manage a high-performing team of analysts; set goals, provide mentorship, and establish performance metrics.
- Serve as trusted advisor to HR leadership; collaborate with senior leaders and the Executive Compensation Committee on executive compensation matters; contribute to governance and strategic materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree and 7+ years of progressively responsible compensation management experience with project leadership and change management.
- Current knowledge of federal and state labor laws, particularly wage and hour regulations.
- Extensive experience with contemporary compensation and classification strategies and programs.
- Ability to interpret complex information, distill insights, and communicate clearly to stakeholders across functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years in a supervisory/management role.
- Master\'s degree and/or professional certifications (e.g., CCP) preferred.
- Experience in higher education; proficiency with ERP systems, preferably Workday; deep understanding of compensation modules and data integration.
- Experience designing and implementing systems and processes; success delivering large-scale HR programs.
- Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and communication skills; commitment to shared governance; excellent client service orientation and organizational skills.

Department/College: Finance & Administration; HR-Compensation. Employment: Full-time; on-site in Rochester, NY with potential hybrid schedule. Salary: minimum $150,000; competitive benefits package.
