Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support a unionized hospital client in Detroit, MI. This is a short-term contract assignment (at least 90 days) with an immediate start
The HR Generalist will serve as a key partner to leadership, employees, and union representatives by providing hands-on support across employee relations, workplace investigations, labor relations, HR analytics, and general HR operations. This opportunity is ideal for an HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and is skilled in balancing day-to-day HR responsibilities with strategic problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct workplace investigations into employee complaints and policy violations; provide recommendations for resolution.
- Manage and support employee relations cases, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, labor agreements, and employment law.
- Partner with union representatives and hospital leadership on labor relations matters, grievance resolution, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Analyze workforce data and generate HR reports using HRIS systems to identify trends and support decision-making.
- Provide HR guidance and support to managers and employees regarding policies, procedures, and employee lifecycle events.
- Assist with performance management processes, disciplinary actions, and corrective measures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies.
- Support other HR functions such as onboarding, benefits administration, and compliance reporting as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent work experience may substitute for a degree.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3+ years of HR Generalist experience required.
- Highly Preferred:
- Strong background in employee relations and workplace investigations
- Experience working in a union/labor relations environment
- HR data analysis and reporting experience with HRIS systems
Skills & Competencies:
- Solid knowledge of HR practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage sensitive issues.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
- Analytical mindset with experience leveraging HR data for decision-making.
