POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications & Events Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications and marketing plans to support the mission, vision, and goals of the Spokane Home Builders Association. This role leads efforts to enhance brand visibility, engage members and the broader community, and drive revenue through SHBA events. The ideal candidate is a creative and results-driven leader who thrives on strategy, storytelling, and relationship-building.

COMPENSATION RANGE

$55,000-$70,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Key Responsibilities:

Marketing & Brand Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual marketing and communications plan.
  • Manage brand consistency across all platforms including print, digital, events, and community outreach.
  • Oversee creative content development, including newsletters, promotional materials, social media, and website content.

Communications

  • Serve as the chief storyteller for SHBA—crafting compelling messages that highlight the association's impact, initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media pitches, and manage media relations. Maintain an updated list of media contacts, publication advertisers, exhibitors and members to distribute press releases.
  • Support internal communication with members through emails, newsletters, and updates.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Communications committee to include creating and tracking the marketing budget, implement committee directives, attend all meetings and prepare agendas and minutes

Digital & Social Media Management

  • Oversee website updates, analytics, SEO strategy, and user experience enhancements.
  • Manage SHBA's social media presence, strategy, and performance analytics.

Event Management & Marketing

  • Coordinate with assigned event committees to market and promote SHBA events (e.g., Fall Festival of Homes, Bull & Crab Feast, Kick-off Night).
  • Create and track budgets, attend all committee planning meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, develop and present proposals and plans for future events.
  • Ensure consistent and compelling promotion across all channels to drive attendance and ensure sponsor visibility.
  • Provide staff support to the Fall Festival of Homes and Event committees and develop volunteers to assist in event production.
  • Prepare written evaluation of events and maintain accurate and complete files, records and other documents relating to assigned responsibilities.

Staff Oversight

  • Responsible for managing the activities and performance of the Marketing & Events Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Communications

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related field. Experience may be substituted depending on qualifications
  • A great portfolio that demonstrates your strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools such as Constant Contact, Klaviyo or Mailchimp
  • Ability to publish website content using content management systems like WordPress
  • Demonstrated experience planning, developing, posting and monitoring content on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and other social media channels
  • Experience with native and third-party social media management and reporting tools (Hootsuite, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Video production and video editing skills
  • Ability to use Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Events Management

  • Proven experience planning and executing professional events, trade shows, or community programs.
  • Experience working with vendors, sponsors, and committees.
  • Familiarity with budget management and sponsorship development.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple events and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with members, sponsors, staff, and attendees.
  • Negotiation skills for securing venues, contracts, and vendor agreements.
  • Creative problem-solving and ability to adapt quickly under pressure.
  • Understanding of event logistics including registration, venue coordination, catering, AV, signage, and décor.
  • Knowledge of local venues, vendors, and community resources.
  • Familiarity with sponsorship packages, fundraising, or partner relations.
  • Basic understanding of safety, permits, and compliance requirements for events.

  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence, attention to detail and laser focus on meeting deadlines
  • Ability to quickly and capably manage multiple projects at once
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted and respectful relationships with our members, local association peers, co-workers and others

Bonus skills

  • Experience working with government regulations, non-profits, business/trade associations or residential home builders/remodelers
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and readability strategies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent standing, walking and sitting.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work at computer or desk area for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use a computer and see color.
