Managing Director, Strategy & Operations (Commercial/Emerging Middle Market) – BMO U.S.

This is a new and exciting role reporting to our Head, US Emerging Middle Market & US Growth Strategies. The ideal candidate has transformation experience in a business banking or commercial banking credit underwriting operational environment, strong financial acumen for the business, and the ability to work horizontally with partners. Preferred experience includes organizing town halls, strategy decks, and strong communication via newsletters, team communications, and cross-enterprise updates.

Main responsibility is to lead and develop all key strategic initiatives required to meet overall client experience and financial objectives, and to drive and influence the development and execution of large-scale initiatives across various LOBs/jurisdictions. The role requires partnering with leadership and key representatives using a consultative, team-based approach.

The role may consult to or serve on various committees and task forces and includes providing strategic advice to LOBs to articulate strategy and build key capabilities. It involves leading the identification of opportunities to drive innovation to enhance the client experience, prioritizing initiatives, and establishing game plans for execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead launch of strategic initiatives; coordinate with stakeholders and LOB representatives; ensure adherence to project management best practices.
  • Engage sponsors and stakeholders to build consensus and gain buy-in.
  • Gather competitive insights and best practices; recommend measures to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Consult to or serve on committees/task forces; advise on resource requirements and develop roadmaps for strategic execution.
  • Lead implementation and execution of approved initiatives; provide strategic advice to LOBs.
  • Aggregate strategic initiatives through partnerships with business leaders and peers; lead leadership assessments to address opportunities and risks.
  • Develop strategic solutions to support high-level strategy; prioritize initiatives with leadership; establish execution plans.
  • Identify opportunities to drive innovation to enhance the client experience; translate challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Manage internal/external stakeholder relationships, including regulators as needed.
  • Develop and execute competitive intelligence capabilities; define analytics and reporting requirements to inform decisions.
  • Oversee data governance, databases, performance monitoring, and communication of strategy and messaging.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies across BMO to influence behavior; ensure consistency of messaging.
  • Oversee operational programs and training tools to deliver business results; ensure compliance with governance processes.
  • Ensure the sales pipeline strategy meets stakeholder needs; develop integrated sales reporting for recognition and workforce effectiveness; collaborate with sales leaders and product analytics on compensation models.
  • Create a detailed sales pipeline strategy and collaborate with client implementation/service teams to standardize onboarding and service reporting; support client growth and retention reporting standards.
  • Deliver timely, accurate service; operate at a group/enterprise-wide level as a senior specialist resource.
  • Influence how teams work together; think creatively to solve complex problems; communicate abstract concepts clearly; build internal and external networks.
  • Anticipate trends and implement appropriate changes; broader responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge; technical leader regarded as a thought leader for innovation.
  • Verbal and written communication skills – Expert.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills – Expert.
  • Influence skills – Expert; collaboration and cross-group teamwork – Expert.
  • Able to manage ambiguity; data-driven decision making – Expert.

Salary: $164,400.00 - $285,600.00

Pay Type: Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group's pay range and type. Salaries vary by location, skills, experience, education, and may include a commission structure. Part-time roles are pro-rated. For commission roles, the salary represents the expected target for the first year.
