Position Overview

Synergy Commercial Construction is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Estimator to join our growing team. This role is responsible for identifying project opportunities, managing the entire estimating and bidding process, and supporting our pre-construction services. The ideal candidate will have strong commercial construction knowledge, public works/bonded job expertise, and the ability to build solid relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

This position plays a critical role in securing new projects and ensuring that our bids are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company goals.

MUST have Construction Estimating Experience, preferably with General Contracting firms.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Generation & Opportunity Tracking

  • Monitor lead services Sites (Bonfire, CivCast, Ionwave and other sources) for potential project opportunities.
  • Communicate new leads to the construction team and evaluate feasibility.

Project Analysis & Takeoffs

  • Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine scope.
  • Conduct accurate quantity take-offs (measurements and counts) from drawings.
  • Perform site visits to gather data and firsthand knowledge of construction requirements.

Cost Estimation & Budgeting

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors.
  • Develop project budgets using industry-standard estimating software and manual methods.

Proposal & Bid Management

  • Manage the entire bidding process, including downloading plans/specs, organizing documents, and uploading projects into bidding software.
  • Issue Invitations to Bid (ITBs) and Requests for Quotes (RFQs) to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Collect, review, and analyze subcontractor proposals to ensure scope coverage and competitiveness.
  • Assemble and submit complete and accurate bid packages on time.
  • Negotiate and participate in subcontractor buy-outs.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Present cost estimates, proposals, and value engineering solutions to Project Management team .
  • Communicate effectively with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders throughout the pre-construction phase.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and industry partners.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure smooth handoff after bid award.
  • Provide project teams with detailed scopes, budgets, and subcontractor information.
  • Collaborate with design teams during pre-construction to influence cost-effective project solutions.

Documentation & Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of bids, RFQs, addenda, and correspondence.
  • Track and log all bid submissions, including follow-up actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date vendor and subcontractor databases.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience in General commercial construction (public works and bonded jobs experience strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, systems, and local building codes.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Effective negotiation and relationship-building skills with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, but relevant experience considered.
