Be the First Step in Someone's Healing Journey

Bleuler Psychotherapy Center, a mission-driven nonprofit clinic serving Queens for over 70 years, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Intake Therapist to join our behavioral health team. In this essential role, you'll conduct intake assessments, evaluate client needs, and ensure new clients are welcomed into care with empathy, clinical precision, and cultural sensitivity.

You'll work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds - children, adolescents, adults, and families - across both our mental health and substance use programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed therapist who values collaborative care and wants to help shape the client experience from day one.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and walk-in appointments via our Open Access system
  • Formulate diagnostic impressions and determine clinical appropriateness for treatment
  • Use assessment tools to evaluate risk, trauma, and presenting mental health or substance use concerns
  • Prioritize high-risk clients and coordinate timely assignment to ongoing care providers
  • Complete assessment documentation and progress notes in a timely, compliant manner
  • Refer clients to outside providers or community resources as needed
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and warm handoffs to therapists and prescribers
  • Carry a small caseload and provide brief therapy or group facilitation for clients awaiting assignment
  • Support clinical quality initiatives focused on evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, and MI
  • Attend regular staff meetings, trainings, and workshops
  • Other clinical duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in Social Work and NYS LMSW required; LCSW strongly preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of clinical experience, including intake and diagnostic assessments
  • Experience working with behavioral health and co-occurring disorders, including substance use and gambling
  • Proficient in DSM-5 diagnosis, clinical risk assessment, and EHR documentation
  • Skilled in crisis intervention and care coordination
  • Familiar with OMH Part 599 and OASAS Part 822 regulations
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-based environment
  • Culturally responsive with a strong commitment to equitable access to care
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Bengali is a plus

Why Join Bleuler?

  • Serve a diverse, high-need population in a historic Queens-based clinic
  • Contribute to a trauma-informed, person-centered intake process
  • Collaborate with a committed team of therapists, prescribers, and support staff
  • Access professional development, clinical supervision, and training
  • Hybrid flexibility and balanced caseload
  • Full-time employees receive comprehensive benefits, including:
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life and long-term disability insurance
  • Free parking and commuter support
  • EAP services and profit-sharing plan
