Position SummaryRespond directly to the Corps officer in charge of programming. Work in cooperation with corps officers, Community Center Directors, and other staff to support programs, promote growth, and outreach. Share Jesus Christ with individuals and groups, promote team ministry, and work collaboratively to meet program goals. Prior experience with church programs is required. Must have a valid driver's license, pass The Salvation Army's driver safety test, and attend Child Safety Program training. Key characteristics include creativity, self-motivation, responsibility, accountability, flexibility, leadership, good interpersonal skills, and integrity.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and implement all youth programs including Troops, Jr. Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Sunday School, Youth Group, Gospel Choir, Singing Company, Junior Church, Sports & Nursery, and others.
  • Develop and grow youth programs, increase attendance, and train volunteers and teachers through workshops.
  • Create sports programs using the community center, such as basketball and volleyball.
  • Lead classes and provide ministry opportunities inside and outside the corps.
  • Promote discipleship, recruit and develop leaders, and lead classes when necessary.

Leadership and Recruitment

  • Build relationships with social service managers and corps leaders.
  • Attend weekly meetings.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate youth leaders and volunteers; lead programs if volunteers are unavailable.
  • Ensure compliance with child safety requirements.
  • Coordinate leadership meetings and document minutes.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Strengthen relationships through visitation and outreach to families.
  • Assist families and develop support programs, including parenting classes and support groups.
  • Organize monthly family events.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Develop an annual calendar of youth events.
  • Organize transportation for programs.
  • Manage clerical tasks, record-keeping, and reporting.

Summer Programming

  • Promote summer camps and develop relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
  • Participate in camp activities and follow-up with families.
  • Coordinate summer youth and family programs, including music camps.

Young Adult Ministry

  • Expand youth adult ministries, such as Bible studies.
  • Support other duties assigned by officers.
  • Encourage youth participation in outreach and ministry activities.

Kettle and Christmas Program

  • Support kettle campaigns, including driving, counting, and outreach.
  • Coordinate Angel Tree and Christmas celebrations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform physical activities and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Proficiency with computers and communication tools.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong reading and writing skills.
  • Clean driving record, CPR certification, Class B license, and background checks as required.
