Memorial Day has passed, and we are now in the full swing of summer. I hope your summer is off to a great start, as construction, material supply, and mining activities are in full swing. Below is a brief update on recent and upcoming priorities and activities at the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association.
Getting summer off to a strong start
The Legislative Session concluded earlier this month on May 7th. Our association took strong stances on many bills, thanks to the input of our Legislative Sub-committee, our lobbyist Totsy Rees, and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Chris Oestreich of Burnco Colorado. We met virtually every Tuesday to review bills affecting the ready mixed concrete and mining industries. One notable bill we opposed was SB25-005. While it passed, we commend Governor Jared Polis for vetoing it, as we and other groups lobbied for this outcome. The bill would have altered Colorado's Labor Peace Act by removing the current requirement of a second vote for union bargaining for 'union security,' which mandates all employees in the bargaining unit pay union dues regardless of union membership. This highlights the important behind-the-scenes work of our Governmental Affairs team. Thank you all for your efforts!
