UPDATE: The Final Filing Date is Now September 5, 2025 The Diagnostic Center Central Director provides active leadership and management of all activities and functions related to the operations of the Diagnostic Center. Promotes and develops a quality service orientation with all staff that reflects the attitudes and values of the State and Department of Education and ensures all supervisors and their respective programs and units function at maximum levels of efficiency. Provides managerial leadership and direction for all educational program functions, including assessment, consultation, training and technical assistance services to local educational agencies (LEAs), special education students and their families. Oversees and ensures that all human and fiscal resources are managed responsibly to maximize the success of all business conducted at the Diagnostic Center. Develops policies and procedures which reflect the mission, values and goals of the California Department of Education (CDE), and which enhance the common understanding of all staff in the carrying out of their respective duties and responsibilities according to CDE, the California Ed Code and IDEA. Travel is required for this position. Typical Responsibilities include the following duties: • Maintains general managerial oversight for all personnel at the Diagnostic Center with direct supervision for all supervisory staff and selected civil service and exempt positions • Creates delivery models that are responsive to changing customer needs and reflects a family focused assessment model • Establishes and monitors procedures for the supervision, staff development and equitable treatment of all employees by respective department supervisors • Manages recruitment, screening, interviewing and selection of all exempt positions and selected civil service positions within the Center • Ensures all newly hired staff receive appropriate orientation and training for their respective positions • Develops and implements procedures to ensure quality control of all programs and services • Actively participates as a member of the Diagnostic Centers' Management Team (Tri Center Management Team) and the State Special Schools Services Division Cabinet • Monitors and maintains general oversight for and supervision of business services, including the DCC budget, as well as of DCC's facilities, support functions, Information Technology (IT) and personnel functions • Establishes and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and important public agencies, including LEAs and SELPAs • Promotes and implements appropriate personnel practices and labor relations policies • Approves employee performance appraisals • Performs additional duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the Diagnostic Center Director's position You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement . Department Information The Diagnostic Center, Central California provides high-quality, individualized services to special education students, their families, and school districts. Services are provided by expert, transdisciplinary teams of diagnostic professionals that may include educational specialists, speech-language specialists, school psychologists, clinical psychologists, motor specialists, and pediatricians who address the unique educational needs of Central California's most difficult-to-serve students enrolled in special education programs. The Diagnostic Center, Central California is one of three regional assessment centers operated by the State Special Schools and Services Division of the California Department of Education. The Centers provide assessment, training, and technical assistance to all Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in California. Each of the three Centers serves a specific geographic region in the state: Southern California (Los Angeles), Northern Californa (Fremont), and Central Californa (Fresno). Minimum Qualifications - Master's Degree in special education or related field is required
- Applicant must possess a California Administrative Services Credential, or be qualified and willing to enroll in an administrative internship program working toward obtaining the credential.
- A minimum of five years of administrative experience with oversight responsibilities of special education programs
- Knowledgeable of the principles and best practices of special educational assessment
