SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY: The Budget Analyst will play a key role in the IPS budget development process and support central office budget execution, data analysis, and communications. The Budget Analyst will collaborate with colleagues to execute the annual budget and provide resources and support to staff across IPS. The Analyst also performs financial analysis, research, and other duties as assigned to support district initiatives, communications, and reporting. WHAT YOU'LL DO: The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like. Core Duties and Responsibilities • Supports budget execution across the agency to ensure budget spending in alignment with goals and spend plans. • Provides project management and technical support to IPS staff during budget development and throughout the year to ensure that resources are allocated and expended in alignment with strategic goals and compliance requirements. • Develops and disseminates communication to internal and external stakeholders in the form of presentations, memos, and reporting to support IPS budget and related initiatives. • Implements the Central Office budget to support IPS's annual budget execution as well as continuous improvement. • Conducts data analysis and financial reporting related to internal research to inform resource allocation, ESSA, and other federal requirements, transparency initiatives, and public information requests. • Uses data and information from various systems and sources to diagnose budget-related challenges, recommend potential solutions, and implement solutions with cross-functional stakeholders. • Provides technical accounting support and guidance for financial accounting system. • Works closely with Purchasing Department concerning permissible expenditures, year restrictions and deadlines; must be able to track and document all expenditures from inception to completion for project managers and auditors. • Works closely with the Accounting team to ensure timely payments from the corresponding funding source. • Must be able to provide district-wide accounting guidance including policy management and training. • Provides ongoing financial training to a variety of departments using strong relationship skills • Ensuring all IPS department leads understand and use SBOA guidelines • Other duties as assigned. Day In the Life Overview On a regular day, as the Budget Analyst, you might: • Work with Departmental Leaders to address Budget concerns, review financials and support recommendations. • Complete cost allocation journal entries. • Reconcile and address budget variances within operational departments. • Streamline processes within the Finance department to create efficiencies for end users. WHAT YOU'LL BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following: • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual must understand budget development, general ledger accounting and GAAP accounting. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS • Two to Five years' experience with progressive responsibility in a financial accounting environment. Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in Finance or Accounting is preferred, or relevant accounting experience, Master's degree preferred. Proficiency with MS Excel required. Familiarity with Tyler Technologies and MUNIS and experience with SQL reporting preferred. FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt ELIGIBILITY FOR REMOTE WORK: Eligible per supervisor's discretion.
