11th August, 2025 Weekend Companion & Household Assistant - Newburgh, NY Schedule: Friday, Saturday, Sunday (20 hours guaranteed) Compensation: $30-$35/hour, based on experience and flexibility Start Date: ASAP A warm and loving family in Newburgh, New York is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and active Companion & Household Assistant to support their adult son with Down syndrome. He has been very active and engaged with his current caregivers and family wants to keep that same energy, and he has a sweet, engaging disposition. The ideal candidate will be someone who can keep him engaged, enjoy outings together (like swimming or walks), and serve as a kind and attentive companion. Key Responsibilities: Provide full assistance with daily living activities in a respectful, supportive manner, including: Supervising and supporting him during showering, dressing, and toileting Offering prompting and gentle physical guidance as needed while maintaining his ability to achieve some independence where possible Engage in daily recreational and social activities-such as swimming, walks, errands, or community events-to keep his days active and joyful Be a steady and upbeat presence who can encourage participation, structure the day with light routines, and adapt to his pace and preferences Prepare his meals or snacks, help with clean-up, and assist with basic household support (e.g., tidying up, his laundry) Collaborate with the family and other caregivers to support his established rhythms and transitions throughout the day Be available for occasional Friday evening and weeknight hours from 6-10 p.m. if a parent has an event Communicate openly with the family and other caregivers to ensure consistency and shared understanding of his needs Be available for occasional Friday evening support (after 5 PM) Be open to occasional weeknight hours (after 6 PM) if the parent has an event
