Library Assistant - Circulation
Summary
The Library Assistant-Circulation handles patron-facing circulation functions and workroom operations.
Schedule
- Up to 24 hours per week
- Flexible Schedule
- Occasional Saturdays and evenings are required based on the needs of the Library
*Please note: This position does not have a fixed or guaranteed schedule. Your start time, working hours, and overall schedule will be determined by the department manager based on the operational needs of the department. While a schedule will be provided to you at least two (2) weeks in advance, scheduling is subject to change.
Essential Functions
Register new library patrons and issue library cardsFacilitate circulation functions in-person or by phoneCheck in and sort books and other media and empty book dropsAssist patrons with printing, copying, and scanning documents, and troubleshoot public computer problems Promote and instruct patrons in the use of library e-resourcesManage study room usage Help patrons identify and acquire desired material through readers advisory, holds, and Interlibrary Loan Accurately record cash receipts and other monetary transactions at deskAssist with volunteer training and assigning tasksPromote a pleasant, welcoming, and organized atmosphere in the library for staff and patronsEnforce the Library's Code of Conduct PolicyMaintain confidentiality and ethical behavior in all library mattersOther Functions
Perform building opening and closing proceduresShelving books and mediaBook repairComplete required continuing education Perform other duties as assignedPhysical Requirements
Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittentlyAbility to lift 30 pounds, push/pull carts/crates weighing 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high as well as low shelvesDexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingersAbility to complete keyboard entryAbility to talk, hear, and seeRequired Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education and Experience
Associate's or bachelor's degree
Ability to speak a language in addition to English
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
