Duties & Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing Education, the Nursing Educator plays a key role in the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of educational initiatives within the Nursing Department. This position supports the development of clinical skills and knowledge for both new and existing nursing staff, with a particular focus on patient care in the correctional health setting. Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with clinical, managerial, and other relevant personnel to achieve the educational goals of the Nursing Department.
  • Participates in and/or chairs Nursing Department and Correctional Health Services (CHS) committees and task forces.
  • Participates in investigations, in-service education programs, and evaluations of new equipment and techniques.
  • Identifies the need for quality improvement projects and coordinates, implements, and monitors these initiatives.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing policies and procedures, ensuring age-appropriate care standards.
  • Assesses learning needs of individuals and groups in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Establishes educational priorities based on position requirements, available resources, and cost considerations.
  • Serves as an educational resource for nursing staff, other NYC Health + Hospitals employees, and community members, supporting career development and educational program planning.
  • Conducts evaluations of educational programs to measure learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Initiates and/or participates in research related to nursing education and related fields.
  • Prepares reports and maintains accurate records of educational activities and competencies.
  • Integrates findings from Quality Assurance (QA) initiatives into educational programming to support continuous improvement.
  • Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and 2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and 3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and 4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including: a. One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or b. Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator. Additional Salary Compensation In addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement: An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
    • Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
    • Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
    • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) = $1,800
    • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) = $2,000
    • Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
    An annual certification differential ranging from $1,878 up to $4,878 if you currently hold appropriate certifications that are nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed. An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Educator.
