The Prince William County Department of Social Services (DSS) is looking for two dedicated and compassionate Human Services Caseworkers to join our Child Protective Services On-going/In-home Team. The CPS Ongoing/In-Home Team handles high-risk and/or court-involved cases. This position requires an individual with strong writing skills who can communicate clearly and concisely, utilizing multiple devices to perform job-related tasks. About This Job: In this role, you will play a key part in monitoring and ensuring the safety and overall well-being of children and families served. You will conduct both formal and informal assessments to develop detailed, comprehensive service plans tailored to each family's unique needs. Responsibilities include co-facilitating In-Service for Kin Caregivers, certifying Kinship Foster Homes on the Resource side, maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records, analyzing risk, preparing court documents, attending court proceedings, and utilizing various case documentation systems to record work activity and request funding for specialized services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability-through their casework-to positively impact the lives of families facing challenges they cannot resolve on their own. MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in a human services field or a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a human services area PREFERENCES: 3 years of experience in each of the following areas:
  • Engaging and assessing family strengths and needs to provide appropriate services
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures in crisis situations
  • Assessing risk and ensuring safety of children and families
  • Working with Kin Caregivers
  • Preparing court documents and participating in court proceedings
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and some evenings Following a period of in-person training, this role offers the potential for a hybrid work arrangement, combining opportunities for teleworking with required days in the office at the discretion of the manager. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.
  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
