Introduction Are you looking to make a difference in Wisconsin infrastructure? The Division of Transportation System Development is seeking 2 Surveyors, one Surveyor Entry/Senior and one Surveyor Advanced for the Southeast Region. This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Waukesha State Office Building in Waukesha, WI at least 2days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview. Position Summary Surveyor Entry/Senior Level: This position is assigned to a specialized team and assists in the oversight of the development of right-of-way plats for highway improvements. This position carries a high level of responsibility and accountability using sound judgment in problem solving and decision-making. This work is technical in nature and includes assisting in preparing and reviewing legal descriptions and right-of-way plats for a variety of projects including large and complex projects. The position also performs other related technical duties. The essential functions of this position require knowledge in making survey calculations and in using specialized computer programs to develop highway right of way plats. The objective level of this position is a Surveyor Senior. Advanced Level: This position serves as the Region Survey Coordinator overseeing the WisDOT survey crews and consultant crews collecting data for the Southeast Region. The position is responsible for overseeing the Wisconsin Department of Transportation process which includes: scheduling work assignments, instructing, assisting and reviewing the work of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and consultant survey data gathering crews. This position will ensure the data supplied is gathered in accordance with Wisconsin Department of Transportation Facilities Development Manual (FDM), standards and specifications. This position computes, adjusts and assembles engineering data for use by design/construction/right of way project leaders. Since this position may be in the field at times, these activities are performed under general supervision. This position works closely and in conjunction with the Region Survey Crew and Survey Coordinator Consultant Lead. In addition, this position is involved on statewide policy and procedure setting committees and is active in interpretation of those policies for both local governmental agencies and other highway regions. An essential function of this job is to lead the engineering data collection for use in design highway improvement projects being developed in the SE Region. This routinely requires on a regular recurring basis, reading and math comprehension skills; computer operation skills, technical writing skills, and the ability to operate data collection devices. Salary Information The Entry level is in schedule-range (14-15) with an annual salary of $60,320-$66,560 The Senior level is in schedule-range (14-14) with an annual salary of $66,560-$74,880. The Advanced level is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $83,200-$95,680. Plus $2,080 additional for holding a WI Professional Land Surveyor license.Both positions offer excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. Job Details WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States. WisDOT is not an E-verify employer. Qualifications A qualified candidate at the entry level would have coursework/training or experience in all of the following:
  • Mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry
  • Principles and/or practices of land surveying
  • Computer programs for land surveying and/or Computer Aided Design and Drafting System (CADDS) applications (i.e. Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation)
A qualified candidate at the senior level would have all the above as well as:
  • 3-5 years field experience using GPS, Totals station, etc.
  • Significant experience using C3D/AutoCAD and/or like survey related software.
An advanced level candidate will all the above as well as:
  • Hold a Wisconsin Professional Land Surveyor license
