A nonprofit organization in New York City is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to join one of their growing family shelters in Queens as a Housing Specialist . About the Opportunity:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday
  • Hours: 9am-5pm with late night Thursday 1pm-9pm
  • Setting: Family Shelter
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain client relationships while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions and Standard Protocols.
  • Comply with Federal, State, City, and organizational privacy and security policies.
  • Act as a liaison to external organizations for education, healthcare, housing, and social services.
  • Support clients in achieving housing goals through referrals and community resources.
  • Conduct housing searches, including contacting landlords and exploring listings.
  • Develop and facilitate housing-related workshops and materials.
  • Provide individualized counseling and organize presentations from housing experts.
  • Build connections with community organizations and landlords.
  • Evaluate housing packages and ensure readiness for move-ins, including payments and conditions.
  • Escort clients to housing-related appointments.
  • Follow up post-move to ensure client stability.
  • Conduct intake, needs assessments, and re-evaluations for clients.
  • Maintain and update client files, ensuring documentation compliance.
  • Collaborate with clients to revise independent living plans and address barriers.
  • Monitor client progress through regular meetings and update relevant databases.
  • Document all client interactions and generate required reports.
  • Assist clients with applications for benefits and entitlements.
  • Coordinate with referral organizations to track progress
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or 2 years of experience
  • First Aid / CPR certification
Desired Skills:
  • Bilingual
  • Certification in Overdose Prevention
  • Previous experience in a Shelter setting
