POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic and Career Advisor supports student success by providing personalized guidance and support. Using a holistic approach, advisors assist students in their academic journey, helping them navigate the institution, connect with support resources, and build the career competencies necessary to achieve their academic, personal, and career goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide individualized advising to help students understand educational options and academic requirements to build degree completion plans. * Guide students through self-assessments, interest inventories, and career research tools to identify strengths, interests, and set academic, personal and career goals. * Teach academic and career readiness skills through orientations, workshops, classroom presentations, and courses like freshman seminar or career exploration. * Apply a proactive case management strategy to engage students who require additional guidance and support * Connect students to key academic and personal resources such as tutoring, counseling, basic needs support, financial aid * Coach students on effective job and internship search strategies, including networking, resume and cover letter development, and interview preparation. * Collaborate with faculty and staff, and campus services such as Parkside Works to ensure a coordinated and supportive student experience. * Maintain accurate and timely advising records, track student progress, outcomes, and reenrollment in EAB Navigate. * Stay current on academic policies, curriculum changes, labor market trends, and advising best practices; pursue ongoing professional development and certification to support student success and retention. * Other responsibilities as assigned
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES * Possess advising, communication, and public relations skills to interact successfully with students, fellow advisors, faculty and staff * Ability to monitor academic progress, track degree completion status, evaluate and process executive actions, and interpret and explain university policies and procedures * Ability to problem solve and analyze situations that may affect the students and/or university * Knowledge of FERPA rules and ability to ensure compliance * Excellent communication and time management skills * Understanding and adherence to university policies and guidelines as they relate to academic records and graduation requirements * Ability to take direction and utilize feedback to improve performance * Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records * Ability to work flexible shifts and hours to meet student and program need
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED * A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. * One or more years of professional experience in related field. * Knowledge of best practices to promote student academic success and career exploration, and ability to learn, understand and explain processes and requirements.

* Demonstrated success supporting and engaging students from diverse backgrounds and commitment and sensitivity to the needs of students who are first-generation or from low-income and/or disadvantaged backgrounds * Knowledge of career assessments and career development theory * Demonstrated knowledge of, and prior experience with, proactive student intervention * A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
Key Job Responsibilities:Student Support Services TRIO
Compensation:Minimum of $44,000/year depending on qualifications
