This includes processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry. Quality control on completed slides is a key responsibility. The technician identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Observations from tests will be recorded accurately. Maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab must be documented. Adherence to established laboratory policies and procedures is essential. The position may require occasional weekend work and on-call coverage on weekends approximately once every two months. Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season, all employees may be assigned to emergency response teams. Hurricane season runs from June through November each year, with peak activity in August and September.
