Production Factory Worker
The Production Factory Worker will work individually or as part of a team operating various machinery throughout the plant. Responsibilities include following work instructions for manufacturing parts, loading raw materials, setting up heats, cutting and weighing prep materials, unloading finished parts, and visually inspecting products for defects. Workers will validate parts using check fixtures, label and package products, and prepare them for shipment.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Operate machinery and follow work instructions for part manufacturing.
- Load raw materials, set up heats, cut and weigh prep, and unload finished parts.
- Inspect finished parts for defects; validate part shape and hole locations when required.
- Properly label, package, and prepare finished goods for shipping.
- Read and follow production drawings, orders, and worksheets.
- Identify and properly handle nonconforming materials.
- Maintain proper materials and tools for assigned tasks.
- Complete paperwork accurately and ensure it accompanies each job.
Safety Requirements and PPE:
- Safety glasses are required in all production areas.
- Gloves must be worn on the non-cutting hand.
- Hearing protection is required in designated areas (e.g., Wheel-A-Brator, Smooth Mill). Note: Areas above 80 decibels require hearing protection.
- Sleeves are required in the open cure areas.
- Specialized gloves (hot mill, nitrile, jersey) must be used in designated areas.
Equipment Used:
- Utility knives, trimming knives, fork knives.
- Dremel tools, drills, drill press, air tools.
- Forklifts, rollers, punches, hammers.
- Ratchet and socket sets, cutters, tape measures, calipers.
- Measuring cups, spray bottles, safety glasses, gloves.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED preferred (not required with prior production experience).
- Initial training (2-4 weeks) required to achieve job competency.
- Must be able to properly complete and manage production paperwork after training.
Required Skills:
- Safe handling of knives, tools and machinery.
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills.
- Legible handwriting and ability to complete documentation accurately.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and measuring devices.
- Clear communication skills.
- General computer knowledge (required in some areas).
- Ability to interpret production worksheets and prioritize tasks.
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
- Good memory for processes requiring multiple inserts and tool use.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift.
- Ability to lift 35-70 lbs. (up to 50 lbs. unassisted; up to 90 lbs. with assistance).
- Ability to bend, twist, and reach overhead.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
