Work Shifts No job description available Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position: Under direction, implements, monitors, evaluates, and participates in the development of nursing educational programs, including nursing orientation programs, and other developmental activities in an assigned health care setting. Conducts training and ongoing competency assessment to align nursing educational opportunities with health care setting goals, operational standards, and educational priorities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates nursing educational programs and activities for an assigned health care setting; provides continuous education and training to nursing staff; and assesses educational needs of staff. 2. Participates in planning and conducting nursing staff development programs. 3. Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates in-service nursing orientation; maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities; and monitors and submits all other mandatory work and regulatory reports. 4. Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of effective nursing education and training programs; serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues. 5. Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives of the heath care setting to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance. 6. Assesses learners' progress, and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjust orientation, competencies, lesson plans, educational activities and teaching techniques, as needed. 7. Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staff's knowledge and compliance, to ensure that national Patient Safety Goals are maintained, and by participating in competency validation of newly-appointed staff; maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs, activities, and other appropriate learning opportunities. 8. Serves on nursing and health care setting committees, as assigned, and develops and directs continuous quality improvement programs which achieve targeted patient quality of care outcomes. 9. Instructs and provides in-service education for new products, equipment, and changes or updates to nursing departmental orientation procedures. 10. Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based methodologies and/or best practices; develops programs based on the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards. 11. Develops teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to promote participant engagement. Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and 2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and 3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and 4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including: a. One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or b. Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator. Department Preferences
Develops, disseminates, monitors, and evaluates the pathway to competency. Tracks and trends progress of nursing competency and reports findings to DoNs, ADNs, AsDNs. Validates competence through the evaluation of synthesis of skills, knowledge, and performance. Reviews the self-assessment of newly hired (registered professional and licensed practical nurses) and tailor competency-based orientation to meet those needs. Provides validation of competency through the use of supervisory field visits, pre/post-tests, return demonstration; evidence of daily work, case studies/scenarios, exemplars, discussion/reflection groups, presentations, mock events, and transfer knowledge and skills specific to all the body systems. Supports annual and as needed performance evaluations of nurses in collaboration with DoNs, Assistant Directors of Nursing (ADN) and Associate Directors of Nursing (AsDNs) through observation, record review and joint field visits. Nursing Education and Training Design Incorporates principles of adult learning and knowledge of cultural differences in formal and informal educational activities through effective instructional interactions. Provides education and review competency for: body systems (neurological, pulmonary, genitourinary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, endocrine, integumentary, etc.); and adult, behavioral health, and maternal child health nursing, chronic disease management, and other topics relevant to Community Care's programs and services. Facilitates the field preceptor(s) program and all nursing educational activities for Community Care. Conducts skills training and supervisory field visits. Facilitates nursing in-service, simulation exercises, and education programs utilizing skills lab. Assists with the BLS Simulation Station. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years, 2 years of experience in home care or nursing education or demonstrated expertise in a clinically equivalent role to onboard new hires. One year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s) or holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator. COS-C Certification within one (1) year of hire EDUCATIONAL LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: KNOWLEDGEABLE IN: Strong Understanding of OASIS documentation. Strong Understanding of federal, state and local regulatory guidelines (Department of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and accreditation standards (Joint Commission) for home care services. Additional Salary Compensation In addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement: An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
- Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
- Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) = $1,800
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) = $2,000
- Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
An annual certification differential ranging from $1,878 up to $4,878 if you currently hold appropriate certifications that are nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed. An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Educator.
