TITLE: CustodianQUALIFICATIONS:* Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned.* The ability to communicate in verbal or written form.* Three written and verified references on file.* Previous training or experience preferred.* Valid Maryland driver's license.* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO: Head Custodian and Plant Operations SupervisorJOB GOAL: To provide students, parents, and teachers with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, and obtain an education.ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:* Cleans and maintains all areas of assigned responsibility including, sweeps, mops, wet-washes, buffs, burnishes, and vacuums floors.* Dusts furniture, cleans and polishes fixtures, washes windows, scrubs and disinfects toilet rooms.* Lifts and carries items in excess of 50 pounds on a regular basis.* Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical system, as soon as they are discovered.* Conducts inspection of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.* Completes all preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.* Assists in ice and snow removal.* Complies with local and state laws in the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.* Attends safety, maintenance, and custodial meetings as requested by Head Custodian, School Manager, Principal, or Plant Operations Supervisor.* Assists Head Custodian in checking fire alarm system and assumes responsibility for the general fire safety and general security of the building.* Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.* Keeps building clear of people not on official school business and assists law enforcement officers as directed by Principal.* Checks interior and exterior lighting.* Reports any violations of exterior parking rules and regulations.* Assists in the maintenance and care of the school grounds.* Performs other duties as assigned.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt position. Twelve month work year.
