Job Description :

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an essential part of the City's criminal justice system, involved in reform initiatives aimed at reducing jail populations without compromising public safety. The DOC manages facilities and court operations across the five boroughs with over 7,500 staff.

The Department seeks to appoint an Executive Director, Central Operations Desk (COD), who will oversee the agency's 24/7 operational communications system. The role involves managing incident reporting, emergency coordination, and communication with internal and external stakeholders, including law enforcement and emergency services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the communications team and developing performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate incident reporting and alerts.
  • Coordinating information sharing and communication during incidents.
  • Managing staffing and scheduling for communication operations.
  • Collaborating on training, drills, and special projects.
  • Briefing senior leadership and supporting emergency communications in the field.
  • Analyzing incident data to identify trends and improve processes.
  • Minimum qualifications:

    • Baccalaureate degree and four years of full-time experience in investigations, law enforcement, criminal justice, or related operational fields, including 18 months in an administrative or managerial role, or equivalent education/experience with managerial experience.

    Preferred skills include:

    • Availability for on-call work, after-hours, and weekends.
    • Experience in emergency management and law enforcement.
    • At least three years of executive management experience, familiarity with incident reporting systems, and experience in government sectors.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle confidential information and work under pressure.
    • Experience engaging diverse stakeholders and community partners.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media, and data sources.
