Overview Of Program & PositionWith the generous support of our partners at the Superior Courts of California, San Francisco, MHASF has recently opened a Peer Support and Wellness Center. The Center is located at MHASF headquarters in San Francisco's Flood Building. Through a basic intake and screening process, MHASF program participants are encouraged to attend Center groups and activities. Activities include WRAP planning, arts & crafts activities, book club, computer access and digital learning support, board and card games, and numerous support groups focusing on wellness and recovery. The Center Manager creates a weekly schedule for MHASF Department of Peer Services staff who take turns staffing the Center, develops a Center curriculum of activities, and is available for 1:1 support for Center participants.

ResponsibilitesTop Three Responsibilities

• Manage the Center's weekly scheduling system and assign Department of Peer Services team members to staff the Center each week
• Develop of curriculum of Center activities
• Provide 1:1 peer support, as needed, by Center participants

Center Administrative Duties

• Be responsible for scheduling weekly staffing in the Center using the Paycom scheduling system
• Ensure that the Center adheres to safety and cleanliness standards
• Track the daily Center sign-in sheets
• Support Department of Peer Services program managers with the initial screening and intake of participants for access to the Center

Curriculum Development

• Work with Department of Peer Services Peer Support Specialists and Manager to develop basic curriculums for Center activities and support groups
• Develop and post via email and the MHASF website the Center's monthly activity and group support offerings

Peer Support to Center Participants

• Use personal lived experience as an individual living in recovery to engage with participants
• Serve as a role model and self-disclose lived experience background to participants as appropriate, to establish trust and demonstrate the possibility of recovery
• Provide information and assist participants with access to community services and resources
• Be familiar with WRAP planning and support participant with developing individualized WRAP plans; if not trained in WRAP , MHASF will ensure that the PSS receives this training
• Co-facilitate Center activities and support groups
• Develop a monthly schedule of Center activities to be sent via email and posted on the MHASF website

Record-Keeping, Training, & Participation

• Attend one-on-one supervision with manager, staff meetings, and monthly all-staff trainings
• Ensure Center services conform to Medi-Cal and HIPAA requirements and standards

The Center Manager also supports broader MHASF initiatives and is responsible for other duties as assigned. The above job responsibilities are meant to be representative, not a comprehensive job description, and are subject to change depending on the needs of the program and MHASF.

Qualifications

• Personal lived experience of recovery and a willingness to disclose to participants and during counselor trainings is a requirement for this peer position
• Minimum two years of experience as a peer counselor, peer specialist, or similar (either paid or volunteer), ideally within a nonprofit setting
• Minimum of one year of program coordination or program management experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting
• High level of organization and time management with an ability to focus and prioritize in stressful situations
• Behavioral health knowledge, including familiarity with psychiatric diagnoses, psychiatric symptoms and associated behavior, psychiatric medications, and substance use issues
• Ability to respond effectively to conflicts and strong emotions
• Familiarity with community resources in San Francisco
• Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information & understanding of confidentiality practices
• Familiarity with the mental health recovery movement, peer support model, & local resources
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, use of tele-health platforms such as Zoom, and data entry
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write effective case notes
• Highly collaborative work style and ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to identify and accomplish goals
• Ability to problem-solve and to exercise independent judgment under stress
• Willingness to learn from others, take feedback, and make adjustments to communication and behavior
• Experience taking initiative to self-educate about unfamiliar subjects or concepts
• Affirmative and accepting approach toward people whose needs and experiences differ from your own

Physical RequirementsThe position requires long periods of work at a desk, which may involve sitting or standing and the use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and desk phone. The office building and between suites of the 6th floor of the building, and to travel short distances (under 1 mile) is required.
