The Specialist, Labor Standards is responsible for developing, maintaining, and ensuring accuracy with labor standards across all store formats within our grocery retail operations. The Specialist serves as a subject matter expert on company labor model and workforce utilization, ensuring the right staffing is in place to deliver operational excellence and an exceptional customer experience. Labor Standards Development & Maintenance

  • Develop, validate, and maintain labor standards for all in-store processes across departments, ensuring standards reflect operational reality and efficiency targets.
  • Utilize MOST methodology to Conduct time and motion studies, operational processes, and workflow data to establish accurate labor requirements by task, department, and store type.
  • Ensure labor standards are regularly reviewed and updated in line with technology changes, process improvements, and operational strategies.
Operational Support & Optimization
  • Partner with Merchandising and Operations teams to align labor standards with process documents and SOPs to ensure the standards reflect the operational expectations.
  • Provide field support to address questions, interpret labor standards, and resolve discrepancies in labor expectations.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Conduct time and motion studies utilizing MOST methodology.
  • Evaluate new business proposals and proposed store process changes to understand impact to store labor model.
  • Provide recommendations for store process methods and process improvements.
  • Implement engineered labor standards in Kronos to improve scheduling accuracy and workforce planning.
  • Analyze store processes, identify inefficiencies, and recommend process improvements.
  • Collaborate with store operations teams to test and validate new labor standards.
  • Perform research in support of key operations management decisions related to store process and service level management.
  • Conduct continuous review of labor models to find areas for simplification, including the updating of store characteristics, store profiles, and labor volume drivers.
  • Complete annual renewal/refresh of labor standards to ensure all business changes are considered and properly reflected in the Brand labor model.
  • Ongoing reviews of department process updates, and in-store observations to ensure labor standards are current.
  • Provide support to the Brand to ensure labor standards are properly configured to drive the appropriate labor hours forecasts in enterprise workforce management system.
  • Maintain enterprise knowledge of all systems used to manage labor model (Kronos, StandardsPro, etc.).
  • Has autonomy to make decisions on the configuration method used to build labor standards in the Brand labor model.
What do we expect you to bring to the table? Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in labor standards development, workforce planning, operations management, or a related field-preferably in grocery retail or high-volume retail environments.
  • Experience with labor management systems (LMS), workforce management software, and scheduling tools
  • 2+ years in a related field or retail management role.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate into actionable insights.
  • Ability to conduct time and motion studies and apply to the labor management and scheduling systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to influence without direct authority.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, workforce planning software, and reporting tools.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on process accuracy and compliance.
Key Relationships:
  • Internal: Operations, Merchandising, Workforce Planning, Training & Development
  • External: Labor management and scheduling, Industrial Engineering Consultants, and internal SME departments.
Success Measures (KPIs):
  • Accuracy and timeliness of labor standard updates.
  • Reduction in variance between scheduled labor and labor standards.
  • Improved labor productivity and cost efficiency without impacting service scores.

What are the details?
  • Hybrid Remote: This position is based out of Carlisle, Pa. and will require 3 days a week in the office.
  • Reporting: The Specialist, Labor Standards reports into the Manager, Labor within the Labor Team.
