Senior Agricultural Technician Browns Valley, CA, Job ID 78412University of California Agriculture and Natural ResourcesThe Senior Agricultural Technician position performs all phases of cultural practices, including the operation of specialized livestock and farm equipment, provides research project support, monitors pasture conditions, and assists with livestock movements. Installation, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems, pesticide/chemical applications. The Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center is 5,700 acres of grazed rangeland that fosters and supports research, extension outreach programs focused on key beef cattle and natural resource themes relevant to the Sierra foothills.The first application review date will be 6/2/2025.Operations Support-water flow, ensures uniform irrigation and pesticide applications, cleans ditches, repairsEvaluate forage conditions and pastures, feed cattle, inspects water sources.-Move cattle from pasture to pasture or from remote fields to corrals; Constructs, repairs, and performs maintenance on all fencing structures and corrals.-Select, setup and operate appropriate equipment and implements to achieve researchproject and Center goals.-Perform pesticide applications including pesticides and fertilizers.-Perform installation, maintenance and operation of irrigation systems.-Assist with research data collection from cattle or pastures.-Record and maintain data involving irrigation management and scheduling, cattleAssists on projects following research protocols.Facility Maintenance-Perform minor and routine maintenance of animal handling facilities, equipment andSchedule and facilitate maintenance of animal handling vehicles.-Clean and disinfect cattle transportation equipment and cattle working facilities.-Perform minor repairs to gates, corrals, and stock water facilities.-Conduct other ranch and research tasks as needed.High school diploma or equivalent experience.Experience with a demonstrated ability to operate heavy and/or complex agricultural and livestock equipment.Horsemanship skills to gather and work cattle in steep and wooded areas.gathering/processing cattle, verbal and written communication, and operations with heavy equipment.Skills using computer systems including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and other computer programs.Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to complete tasks and meet project specifications.Skills to operate farm, hand and power equipment safely and properly.Ability to take directions and work independently on operation tasks.Knowledge to recognize conditions around cattle working facilities or transportation equipment that may be dangerous to workers or livestock.Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities.
