Training Locations: Ottumwa Generating Station

Residency Requirements: Not subject to residency requirements.

Job Summary: Operates fuel-handling equipment and performs related coal yard and plant tasks at a steam generating station.

What You Will Do:

• Operates fuel and ash-handling equipment, such as conveyors, tractors, bulldozers, cranes, crushers, locomotives, ash trucks, cranes and etc. At generating stations: keeps equipment lubricated and takes care of minor maintenance needs. Cares for, and keeps bearing and equipment lubricated.
• Keeps the coal handling equipment neat, clean, and operating properly.
• Assures that all major and auxiliary equipment are operating properly.
• Assists in maintaining railway tracks and fuel handling structures.
• Spots and loads or unloads coal cars, barges, or trucks.
• Performs switching of railway cars as needed.
• Maintains and grooms coal pile.
• May be required to direct and instruct other employees.
• Performs maintenance work of ordinary nature when not operating.
• Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
• Assists in the loading of ecostone, fly ash and bottom ash.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities.
• Calibrate and zero conveyor scales as needed.
• Perform routine yard maintenance.
• Perform simple test on coal to determine where to set crushers.

Education Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to operate fuel handling equipment.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Mechanical ability.
• Knowledge of fuel-handling equipment and the layout and operation of the generating station to which assigned.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Basic computer skills required.
• According to location, may be required to operate fork lifts.

Pay Range: $37.87 - $43.28
