asic Purpose
Responsible for supervision of QA technicians and administering and maintaining all aspects of food safety and quality assurance within the QA department. This position is responsible for the implementation, development, and program oversight for HACCP, SSOP (pre-operational & operational), animal welfare and applicable prerequisite programs, QA procedural manual, and SQF 2000 level 3 compliance. This position has responsibilities regarding SQF 2000 level 3 and assigning, training and monitoring staff in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop, document, and implement programs and procedures to ensure that customer, company and regulatory specifications are met. Communicate to and train all employees prior to implementation of new processes/procedures. Ensure the QA department is properly organized, staffed and trained to meet and achieve these requirements. Ensure SQF & QA procedural compliance and maintenance. Perform daily review, compilation, and maintenance of all HACCP, SSOP, and AQL paperwork. Serve as back-up to perform lab duties as needed: Salmonella/Campylobacter/E.coli- testing in accordance to USDA Regulations %- Fat analysis/Calibration of equipment for ground turkey- nutrition verification Calcium and bone percentage in accordance to USDA regulation Blood Analysis for Avian Influenza Water samples for HACCP/Pre-Req. programs Pesticide Residue ABF/Organic Testing Requirements Environmental Swab-Testing & Method Monitor all lab inventory and approve orders. Maintain a positive working relationship with USDA and respond to their concerns in a timely manner. Keep all shift managers and supervisors aware of USDA concerns and corrective actions. Investigate Quality/Customer Issues- documenting and reporting corrective actions. Participate in the preparation of the plant for 3rd party audits including Organic, Non-GMO, Gluten Free, ABF, AWF, SQF, and co-packer. Perform other related responsibilities, as needed, to support business objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct: 3-10 QA Technicians.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Develop a work force that is cross functional within each department of the plant. Schedule and assign work activities for FSQA technicians to ensure coverage and control costs and overtime. Communicate standards and ensure compliance with company standards and procedures, quality standards, GMP's, and HAACP procedures. Train and enforce safety regulations and practices. Manage staffing and attendance. Facilitate team meetings, including team member training. Ensure appropriate documentation is completed and maintained. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Poultry/Animal Science, Food Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- 1-2 years' experience of poultry and supervisory experience in quality assurance.
- HACCP Certified by an accredited body.
- SQF Certified by an accredited body.
- Ability to organize, plan, and complete work in a timely fashion.
- Ability to recognize and respond to changes appropriately.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and uncompromising regard for quality.
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of people.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
