We are currently seeking a Converting Senior Project Engineer to lead major engineering initiatives across our converting operations in the United States.
This position is responsible for managing capital projects, driving process improvements, integrating advanced technologies, and supporting strategic manufacturing goals. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in converting operations, experience with SAP systems, and a strong understanding of automation, equipment optimization, and cross-functional leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, execution, and completion of capital projects in converting operations, ensuring alignment with business objectives and return on investment
- Provide technical expertise in the design, specification, procurement, and installation of converting equipment and systems
- Oversee contractor performance, project timelines, risk mitigation, and budgets to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective execution
- Drive implementation of automation upgrades and smart manufacturing technologies across production lines
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, safety, quality, and procurement teams to identify and solve performance gaps
- Use structured problem-solving tools such as root cause analysis, A3, or DMAIC to address chronic issues and improve uptime
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, OEE, and/or TPM methodologies to drive productivity, reduce waste, and enhance process stability
- Support change management efforts by coaching operators, technicians, and supervisors on new systems and processes
- Develop detailed project documentation including scope, design drawings, timelines, budgets, and compliance reports
- Utilize SAP for project tracking, procurement coordination, maintenance planning, and cost control
- Train production and maintenance personnel on newly installed equipment and systems
- Maintain a strong presence on the floor to support progress tracking, issue resolution, and continuous improvement
- Coordinate with global engineering teams to ensure alignment with corporate technical standards and best practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a manufacturing or converting engineering role, preferably in tissue or paper products
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects from design to completion
- Strong working knowledge of converting equipment such as rewinders, log saws, embossers, wrappers, case packers, and palletizers
- Proficiency with SAP systems for project tracking and materials planning
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other mechanical design tools is a plus
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) or working knowledge of OEE, TPM, or similar methodologies preferred
- Exceptional project management, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive alignment, and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills
- Willingness to travel to Sofidel America sites as needed
