Wooster Campus Student Greenhouse Assistants participate in everything from general plant care and operations to grounds and facilities upkeep and maintenance, providing service and support for the research and/or academic programs. Responsibilities include; maintaining equipment and greenhouse space, preparing soil mixes, mixing and applying fertilizers, installing and maintaining irrigation systems; participating in designing, modifying and/or adapting irrigation systems to meet specific needs. Additionally, this position will help take down and hang new lights and clean and maintain greenhouse facilities (sweeping and cleaning greenhouse rooms and hallways, washing pots, dumping trash). Student assistants will help with integrated pest management (IPM) crop-protection techniques and strategies to control pests and disease, and plant, water, fertilize and maintains greenhouse plants per specifications for each crop/project, if needed. Independent and group work required. Basic computing skills a plus. Must be reliable, responsible, and hard working and have the ability to handle adverse weather conditions (heat, dirt, wetness), operate electric carts, contend with insects and lift or move 50+ pound bales of growing media. Training on all aspects of job description are provided.
