THE POSITION If you excel in a hands-on work setting and possess journey-level skills across multiple trades, consider a position with our Berks County Maintenance Organization within the Department of Transportation. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will have the opportunity to utilize your expertise in various skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the repair and maintenance of bridges, machinery, buildings, HVAC systems, and equipment, all of which are essential to our highway maintenance objectives. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will be responsible for conducting routine repairs and replacements, including lighting, plumbing valves, switches, and broken glass, as well as addressing clogged plumbing issues. Your tasks will also involve replacing doors, constructing or dismantling partitions, and performing minor roof inspections and repairs. Additionally, you will operate and maintain air conditioning units, generators, HVAC systems, and other building appliances as required. You will create rough plans, estimate material quantities, specify parts for procurement, and select appropriate tools for various projects. It is essential to ensure high-quality preventative maintenance and repairs for department buildings and grounds while providing prompt customer service as priorities permit. Adherence to departmental policies regarding safety, leave, and purchasing documentation is crucial. You will also collaborate with field personnel to maintain satellite stockpile facilities, utilizing lawn care equipment and snow removal tools as necessary, and effectively communicate with supervisors regarding job progress and material requirements. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employmentWork hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685 (before taxes).You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); orFour years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; orAny equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities. Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's license. Additional Requirements: You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Two years of experience in cost estimation to include billing of materials and supplies.
  • Two years of experience in general carpentry, such as door repair, installation, drywall, shelving, and/ or office partitions.
  • Two years of experience in plumbing trades as it relates to general building maintenance (drain, clog, toilet, retaining wall repair or replacement).
  • Two years of experience in electrical trades as it relates to general building maintenance (light fixtures, switches, dimmers, HVAC programming). Two years or experience in roofing trades as it relates to general building maintenance.
