Katten represents public and private companies in numerous industries, as well as a number of government and nonprofit organizations and individuals.Senior Pitch and Proposal ManagerUnder the general direction of the Director of Client Intelligence and in accordance with Firm policies and procedures, the Senior Pitch and Proposal Manager leads the Firm's proposal function, with responsibility for providing strategic guidance and executing pitches, proposals, formal RFP responses and tailored capability statements, while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.The Senior Pitch and Proposal Manager is expected to develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Firm's capabilities, including prior experience, clients and industries served, and distinguishing characteristics. This position also oversees the collection, composition, and organization of content and representative experience in support of business development opportunities. They are further expected to proactively leverage innovative technologies and implement improvements that enhance both pitch and proposal processes and outcomes. Essential duties are performed individually or in conjunction with other members of the Marketing and Business Development (MBD) Department.The Senior Pitch and Proposal Manager can be located in the Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC offices. Katten offers a hybrid work model, allowing the flexibility to work both on-site and remotely on a regular basis (KattenFlex).Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following.   • Overall responsibility for the timely development and delivery of high-quality, competitive RFP responses, pitches, proposals and capability statements that clearly articulate the Firm's value proposition and address specific client opportunities.
  • Independently manage RFPs from receipt through submission, including leading kick-off calls, assessing viability, and collaborating with Firm lawyers to develop strategy, coordinate multi-practice input, and align with client needs and Firm capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the MBD practice support team to gather matter information, develop representative experience, and maintain consistency between proposal content and practice-specific capabilities.
  • Craft tailored, compelling content by drawing on input from attorney subject matter experts, existing collateral and other relevant sources.
  • Manage the Firm's representative experience and client disclosure lists used in pitches and proposals. Ensure all entries are accurate, current and compliant with Firm policies, client permissions and strategic priorities.
  • Liaise with the Firm's Director of Pricing to develop and articulate pricing strategies that align with client and Firm objectives.
  • Draft, edit and proofread qualification statements, pitch books, proposals and other related materials to ensure accuracy and brand consistency.
  • Manage and oversee monthly reporting on proposal activity and outcomes to practice and department leaders.
  • Manage the Firm's submission of due diligence questionnaires, ensuring timely, accurate and compliant responses in coordination with Compliance, IT, Finance and other relevant departments.
  • Maintain consistent brand identity and oversee document templates.
  • Document and share results and best practices with internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee management of all content in MBD systems, in coordination with the Senior Marketing Technology and Experience Specialist, to ensure all content and experience is updated and consistent.
  • Manage the library of past and current proposals as well as standardized RFP responses.
  • Proactively track pitch and proposal activity by regularly following up with attorneys to obtain and document outcomes and next steps.
  • Ensure that documents are secure and in keeping with Firm standards.
  • Other marketing and business development projects as assigned by the Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer or Director of Client Intelligence.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises a Pitch and Proposal Coordinator and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination and evaluation.
  • Contributes to the oversight of the Senior Marketing Technology and Experience Specialist.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; making recommendations for hiring, promotion, compensation and termination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English or Business and ten or more years' related experience are required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience working in a large law firm is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional writing and content development skills are essential, including the ability to craft original, persuasive and well-structured proposals that articulate the Firm's value proposition and clearly differentiate its practices and attorneys.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a high degree of initiative and intellectual curiosity.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate with professionalism and diplomacy while building effective relationships across all levels of the Firm.
  • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills that support strong problem-solving.
  • Excellent project and time management skills in order to develop project plans, coordinate projects, communicate changes and progress, complete projects on time and manage project team activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including effective data management, content tracking and maintaining accuracy across internal systems.
  • Ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable insights and communicate them effectively through reports, written correspondence, email or verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, adopt and apply innovative technologies to enhance content development, streamline workflows and improve proposal outcomes.
  • Ability to understand and support the Firm's goals, services, culture and strategy in order to represent the Firm in a positive, professional manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute marketing-related materials, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Work occasionally requires more than 37.5 hours per week in all offices, except New York (35 hours per week) to perform the essential duties of the position.
In our Chicago office, the annualized salary range for this position is $160,000 to$205,000.In our New York office, the annualized salary range for this position is $165,000 to $210,000.In our Washington, DC office, the annualized salary range for this position is $160,000 to $205,000.Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.We offer an outstanding benefit package which includes medical/dental/vision, 401k with employer contribution, parental leave, transportation fringe benefit program, back-up care option, generous paid time off policy and long-term and short-term disability policies.
