Summary These positions are located within the Nursing Service of the VA Medical Center in Northport, NY. Responsibilities ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Participates in telephone and/or face to face conferences with the Nurse Managers to review information regarding statistical data; Ensures assigned timecards are posted daily and biweekly payroll submission is completed timely; Interprets and administers two different pay systems (Title 5 and Title 38); Maintains time cards of assigned unit personnel, intermittent, part-time, non-scheduled employees, compressed work week which includes night differential, premium pay, holiday, in-lieu days, etc.; Initiates requests for overtime pay; Maintains time schedules and posts Time and Attendance Reports; Resolves payroll problems and answers questions regarding employee's salaries and deductions; Prepares routine correspondence; and Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 You may be required to serve a probationary period Subject to background/security investigation Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See Additional Information below for details. Qualifications In order to qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must possess one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Time and Leave Clerk position. Specialized experience for the position includes: posting, examining, computing and balancing hours on time and leave records; providing advisory and technical assistance to staff and management regarding time and leave regulations and policies; ensuring accuracy, completeness, and conformance in time and leave record processing; and utilizing required software to document accurately in a time and leave system. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. One full year of graduate education is 18 semester hours. Additional Information Physical Requirements: Work requires sitting, walking, climbing stairs, standing, bending and carrying light weight items such as books and papers. Work is performed in an office setting. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
