The Department of History, Politics, and Geography at Farmingdale State College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Science, with appointment beginning in Fall 2024. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field. We are especially interested in applicants who, in addition to their doctorate, have a Master's in Public Administration. As the department works to put forth a BS degree program in the area of Public Administration and Public Policy, it is expected that the successful candidate will support program development, advise students, and contribute to the program's growth.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. Teaching loads consist of four courses per semester and include various modalities of instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to effectively teach general education courses such as American Politics, as well as core public administration classes that cover topics such as: policy analysis and evaluation; budgeting and finance; and ethics. Candidates are required to have a well-defined research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentation, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. In addition, faculty must participate in service at the department and college-level. We are especially interested in applicants who are familiar with the region's public, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as applicants with experience and interest in advising students.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Ph.D. in Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field by the time of appointment

+ Expertise in core areas of public administration

+ Demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness

+ Ongoing research agenda

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Master's in Public Administration

+ Experience or interest in advising students and helping them seek internships and jobs in public, private, and/or non-profit sectors

+ Established record of scholarship in the field of public administration

Additional Information:

This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.

+ For the first 10 working days, beginning Thursday, October 19, 2023, and ending Wednesday, November 1, 2023, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
