Registered Nurse - Maternal Special Care/Antepartum

Facility: Albany Medical CenterLocation: Albany, New YorkUnit: Maternal Special Care/Antepartum (D6N)Shift: Night Shift, 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30) OR Day Shift, 3x12-Hour (7:00 - 19:30)Weekends: Every Other WeekendContract Duration: 13 weeks

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse with specialized skills in high-risk antepartum care. This role focuses on managing complex obstetric patients requiring specialized monitoring and intervention before delivery. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in fetal monitoring and the management of high-risk pregnancy conditions.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience. High-risk obstetric experience is preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS, ACLS, and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) are required.
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) OR AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate issued within the past 3 years is REQUIRED at submission. (Proof of class registration is acceptable initially, but certification is mandatory for compliance.)
  • Technical Skills: Epic electronic medical record system experience is REQUIRED.
  • Travel Policy: No local candidates within the facility's defined ineligible counties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing care for antepartum patients with high-risk pregnancies requiring continuous monitoring and medical management.
  • Perform and interpret continuous electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) for patients with complex obstetric conditions.
  • Manage patients undergoing inductions of labor and provide care for patients status-post cesarean sections.
  • Care for bariatric obstetric patients and those with other high-risk medical conditions complicating pregnancy.
  • Administer and titrate high-risk obstetric medications, such as magnesium sulfate for preeclampsia and terbutaline for preterm labor.
  • Collaborate with perinatologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, and the multidisciplinary team to implement individualized plans of care.
  • Provide education and emotional support to patients and families facing high-risk pregnancies and potential complications.

Unit & Patient Population Details

  • Patient Population: Antepartum patients with high-risk pregnancies, including conditions such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, multiple gestations, fetal growth restrictions, and other medical complications.
  • Clinical Focus: Management of high-risk obstetric conditions, continuous fetal monitoring, preterm labor management, and pre-operative preparation for cesarean sections.
  • Care Environment: Level I Trauma Center with a specialized unit dedicated to the care of medically complex antepartum patients.
  • Advanced Skills Required: Expertise in managing cesarean section patients, labor inductions, bariatric obstetric care, and other high-risk conditions.
  • Technology: Advanced fetal monitoring systems, IV infusion pumps for high-risk medications, and specialized equipment for managing obstetric emergencies.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs required
