Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse for our specialized Surgical and Neuroscience ICU. This role demands expertise in managing critically ill patients with complex neurological and surgical conditions in a Level I trauma center environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking skills and thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience with specific experience in trauma, surgical, AND neurological ICU patients.
- Technical Skills: Epic electronic medical record system experience is REQUIRED.
- Competency: Must complete a mandatory competency test within 24 hours of submission.
- Travel Policy: No local candidates within the facility's defined ineligible counties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients with complex neurological and surgical conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal surgeries, and post-operative neurosurgical care.
- Manage patients requiring advanced neurological monitoring and interventions.
- Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and implement evidence-based interventions.
- Operate and manage specialized ICU equipment, including ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring devices, and continuous IV infusions.
- Collaborate effectively with neurosurgeons, trauma surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Monitor and respond to changes in neurological status, implementing appropriate interventions to prevent secondary brain injury.
- Provide education and support to patients' families during critical illness.
Unit & Patient Population Details
- Patient Population: Critically ill adults with neurological and surgical conditions, including traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, spinal cord injury, complex post-operative neurosurgery, and multi-system trauma.
- Clinical Focus: Neurological assessment and monitoring, management of intracranial pressure, ventilator management, hemodynamic stabilization, and post-operative critical care.
- Care Environment: Level I Trauma Center with advanced monitoring technology and specialized neuro-critical care protocols.
- Facility Type: Academic medical center with teaching responsibilities
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs required
