Job Description :

Food Safety Coordinator

Royal City, WA

Position Summary

Based in Royal City, WA, our company has been in business for over 10 years and operates a mature food safety program. You will coordinate and organize our food safety initiatives for flours, grains, baking mixes, and dry beans, ensuring every ingredient and finished product meets all USDA and FDA regulations.

In this role, you will collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain teams to design practical safety protocols, train staff on best practices, and continuously monitor our operations. Your work ensures our customers trust the integrity of every bag we ship.

What You'll Do

  • Create and maintain a comprehensive food safety plan tailored to dry-ingredient processing, including hazard analyses, critical control points, and corrective actions.
  • Manage all regulatory paperwork—from ingredient source documentation and certificate of analysis logs to USDA registration renewals and compliance reports.
  • Perform daily walkthroughs of the mill, packaging lines, and warehouse to identify potential contamination or process deviations. Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective measures.
  • Evaluate prospective suppliers by reviewing their third-party lab results, facility audit reports, and safety certifications. Maintain an approved-supplier list and coordinate requalification audits.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring by swabbing food-contact and non-contact surfaces for pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria, and indicator organisms. Ensure timely lab submissions, track results, and trigger rapid-response plans.
  • Serve as the primary liaison during external audits and inspections by FDA, USDA, and key customers. Prepare audit documentation, guide inspectors, and manage follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate and accessible records for each production lot, including batch traceability, equipment calibration logs, sanitation checklists, test reports, and recall simulations.
  • Keep current with evolving food safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging technologies. Recommend process improvements or equipment upgrades to strengthen our safety program.

What We're Looking For

  • Training in food safety, with certifications such as HACCP Coordinator, PCQI, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing food safety programs.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply government regulations (USDA, FDA) to daily operations.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple audits, projects, and training sessions simultaneously.
  • Clear, concise communication skills—able to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical training and SOPs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking, trend analysis, and report generation; comfortable with Word and PowerPoint for documentation and presentations.
  • Collaborative mindset and confidence engaging with cross-functional teams, from production staff to senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Work Environment

You'll divide your time roughly 50/50 between a desk—handling documentation, data analysis, and plan revisions—and the production areas, where you'll conduct inspections, sampling, and staff training. Expect regular collaboration with operations, maintenance, and supply chain colleagues.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Join a Royal City, WA company with over a decade of success and a mature food safety program, where your expertise will make an immediate impact.
  • Play a vital role in safeguarding food quality from the farm through milling and packaging to the consumer's table.
  • Work in a culture that values innovation, continuous improvement, and hands-on problem solving every day.

Additional Notes

  • Our Royal City, WA location is strategically positioned to support both domestic distribution and export markets, leveraging proximity to rail lines and highways.
  • The mature food safety program you inherit includes fully documented HACCP plans, routine environmental testing protocols, and a track record of successful audits.
  • We emphasize ongoing professional development, with regular training sessions and opportunities to attend industry conferences.

If you're passionate about food safety and ready to drive excellence in our dry-ingredient operations, we want to hear from you.
