Bank of Marin, voted by our employees as one of the Best Places to Work in the North Bay Business Journal, is looking for an Accounting Assistant to join our Finance and Accounting Team out of either our corporate office in Novato or regional office in Rancho Cordova. The Accounting Assistant supports the Accounting department and is responsible for maintaining accurate and relevant accounting records of incoming and outgoing transactions and payments, and assisting in daily, monthly, quarterly and annual financial activities, including reporting, budgets and audits. Preparation of journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring that all necessary transactions are posted in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify and post details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and total accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases.
  • Code data for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures.
  • Monitor loans, cash, deposits, and accounts payable and receivable to ensure that transactions are up to date.
  • Compile and sort documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions.
  • Audit invoices against support, research discrepancies, and approve for payment.
  • Compute and record charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, tax / freight charges, rentals, and similar items.
  • Prepare vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records, and review for accuracy.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts on a timely basis and resolve discrepancies.
  • Compile P&L and balance sheets.
  • Assist employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and accounting concepts.
  • Examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the various financial reporting responsibilities of the finance department.
  • Assist with the Bank's external and internal audit requests.
  • Contribute to maintenance of Finance policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and assistance to new employees and other departments when needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Organization and detail-oriented to meet deadlines and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Customer service and team oriented.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks throughout the day.
Professional Experience: 3-5 years related experience and/or training Education & Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college with course work in accounting preferred; 3-5 years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The hiring pay range for this position is $25.40 to $36.09 per hour. In addition to the pay range listed, all bank positions are eligible for incentive compensation, which varies based on role. The pay rate for a successful applicant depends on a variety of factors including but not limited to geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level.
