The California Lottery is looking for a highly experienced and seasoned Head of Paid Media to develop, direct, oversee, and lead the day-to-day management of the Lottery's paid media plans and efforts. Under the general direction of the Chief of Consumer Marketing, the Head of Paid Media leads the team responsible for the creation, coordination, implementation and optimization of paid media plans that include all forms of traditional, digital and social media advertising. The work that the Head of Paid Media is responsible for will help to build the awareness of the Lottery brand, motivate consumers to play Lottery games, and increase player loyalty to generate contributions to education. Upon employment, the Head of Paid Media will be assigned a Lottery office location near their residence that will serve as their main office location. - Bachelor's degree, preferably with a specialization in marketing, communications, business or related field.
- 5-7+ years of experience in media strategy, planning and buying at a senior or managerial level.
- Strong management experience and ability to lead a team. Must have the ability to provide direction, guidance, motivation and oversight to team members, in order to carry out plans and projects that meet objectives, timeline and budget. Must also have strong team building skills to develop a collaborative performance culture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate and gain alignment of unit programs, projects and efforts with various stakeholders and leadership. Have the ability to weigh competing priorities, manage tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with leadership and stakeholders.
- Ability and experience building successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders to establish collaborative partnerships and work as a collaborative member of the larger Marketing organization.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and managing strategic communication and media plans or efforts. Must have the ability to think strategically and tactically.
- Experience working with advertising/media agencies to manage media strategy and plan development, timelines and implementatio . Comfortable communicating with and giving direction to marketing agencies/vendors, and creative staff.
- Have marketing experience in the consumer packaged goods (CPG), entertainment, gaming or lottery industry.
- Thorough understanding of the media landscape and application of research analytics and learning into actionable insights an optimization.
