Prepares and cooks entrees and sides.
Slices and portions meat for cooking and serving.
Requisitions food and assists in, or keeps inventory of, foodstuffs received and disbursed.
Operates and cares for kitchen equipment requiring attention to safety such as steam kettles and slicers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:This is an entry level cooking position, involving responsibility for assisting in the preparation of hot and cold food items. Employees of this class work closely with the Cook or Cook Manager in preparing the main entree. When assigned to an educational facility, the Assistant Cook may work under direct supervision of a Cook or Cook Manager or be in charge of a satellite operation serving precooked food that requires portioning and heating. In the absence of the Cook or Cook Manager, the Assistant Cook assumes those duties and responsibilities. The Assistant Cook may also assign duties to the Food Service Helper. This position may be assigned to various kitchens. KEY FUNCTIONS:
Assists in the preparation of food items.
Sets up serving lines with condiments, hot and cold foods, and table services.
Assist in food handling, including proper storage of food.
Serves as cashier and/or server on food service line.
Assists in the washing and sanitizing of pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EITHER:
Successful completion of a recognized certificate program in Food Service Administration specifically dealing in Food Production rather than Management; OR,
One (1) year paid full-time or its' part-time equivalent experience in food preparation on a large scale for a cafeteria, restaurant, hotel, or institution, other than short order or fast food.
NOTE: Applicants qualifying under option (A) must submit a copy of a certificate or diploma in support of satisfactory program completion.

Servsafe Certified(desired qualification or willing to obtain after permanent hire).
