Network Engineer
BWX Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Network Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!
The Network Engineer will be required to provide evening and weekend support and maintenance, and travel to sites as needed.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Provides the overall network design, implementation, management, and troubleshooting for enterprise wireless. (Cisco environment)
- Supports company SDWAN environment. (Velocloud/Meraki) This includes updates, new installations, and troubleshooting as needed.
- Provides network support for on premise and cloud data centers in a highly available architecture (Cisco Nexus and Microsoft Azure).
- Manages data center and manufacturing firewalls, load balancers, and security appliances (Cisco/Fortinet/NetScaler).
- Monitors end of life/end of support cycles for the various platforms and proposes projects to refresh the hardware to allow the company to remain supported.
- Performs daily network management, performance monitoring, network monitoring, inventory, and backup as needed. (AKiPS, ThousandEyes, Catalyst Center)
- Supports network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Works closely with the company's information security department on ensuring the LAN is protected from malicious activity.
- Provides technical design, implementation, documentation, and operational leadership for all aspects of networking and mentoring for junior team members.
- Automates routine network tasks to improve efficiency and free up time for strategic activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or a related field plus ten (10) years in managing and deploying network devices (Routers, Switches, Load balancers, Access Points, Wireless Controllers); OR a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus fourteen (14) years in managing and deploying network devices (Routers, Switches, Load balancers, Access Points, Wireless Controllers).
- Previous experience with modern routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP).
- Minimum of five (5) years managing an enterprise network in a corporate environment.
- Advanced network problem solving and troubleshooting skills including running wire captures to determine where a problem may exist. (Wireshark, Splunk)
- Experience with network segmentation for the purpose of reducing risk to critical processes on a network.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Incident and Problem Management Experience.
- CCNA certification.
- CMMC Compliance experience.
- Acquisition support.
- Cisco/Microsoft Teams voice experience a plus.
- Network Access Control experience in an enterprise network setting, utilizing 802.1x technology to determine what level of network access to provide to a device.
