Job Overview: The Patient Safety Coordinator (PSC) plays a crucial role in ensuring that all clinical departments adhere to the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) and our comprehensive patient safety program. The PSC will collect and analyze data through chart reviews and collaborate with various teams to identify and implement improvements in patient safety outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement strategies that promote a culture of safety and continuous readiness for NPSGs. Collect and analyze clinical data through medical records and information systems.
  • Foster open communication with nursing, administration, and medical leadership to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at improving patient safety by analyzing performance data and identifying opportunities for enhancing clinical outcomes.
  • Effectively communicate patient safety actions and recommendations to committees, department heads, and staff.
  • Coordinate ongoing patient safety orientation, activities, and educational programs for all team members.
  • Lead projects that enhance patient safety and align with the organization's strategic goals using various process improvement methods.
  • Conduct investigations for serious safety events using methodologies such as FMEA and Root Cause Analysis; develop and implement action plans based on findings.
  • Prepare annual reports detailing actual error occurrences and actions taken to enhance patient safety; manage error/event reporting through a non-punitive system.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program is required; BSN is preferred.
  • Current RN License in good standing is required, with the ability to hold a multistate licensure privilege.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical experience is required.
