GSI is currently seeking an Environmental Chemist to support our growing Environmental and Munitions Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing chemistry-related technical support for a wide range of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) projects such as field investigations and remedial actions.
  • Preparing and reviewing chemistry-related sections of project planning documents (e.g., Work Plans, Uniform Federal Policy Quality Assurance Project Plans [UFP-QAPPs], Sampling and Analysis Plans, eQAPPs), technical memoranda, and reports.
  • Developing sampling approaches/sample design, and project data quality requirements (i.e., data quality objectives [DQOs], measurement performance criteria [MPCs], measurement quality objectives [MQOs]).
  • Determining appropriate federal and state specific project action levels that meet the contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Determining appropriate analytical methods based on contaminants of concern in their respective environmental media.
  • Evaluating the fate and transport of chemicals in the environment and their impacts on human health and the environment.
  • Training personnel on proper sample collection and management (e.g., labeling, packaging, and shipping and preparing chains of custody).
  • Overseeing collection/management of samples from variety of media.
  • Overseeing waste characterization sampling and analysis efforts for determining proper disposal of investigation-derived waste.
  • Developing scopes of work and coordinating with laboratory and data validation subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense (DoD) Quality Systems Manual (QSM) and DoD Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) and verifying laboratories accreditation.
  • Managing analytical laboratory data and submitting or coordinating SEDD to DoD management databases (e.g., FUDSChem, ERPIMS).
  • Performing field and analytical laboratory data reviews for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to project quality assurance and quality control specifications.
  • Conducting data evaluations, including multi-year trending analyses, and data usability assessments.
  • Working efficiently on project teams and mentoring junior staff.
  • PFAS/PFOA experience is preferred, but not required
  • Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) experience is preferred, but not required.

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Chemistry or other environmental science-related field.
  • 5 years of directly related environmental chemistry experience.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects of various size and scope.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a project team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
