Senior Chemist
La Crosse, WI (full relocation package offered)
In this role, you'll tackle complex challenges in chemistry and materials science, defining project goals, developing technical strategies, guiding experimental design and execution, and communicating results and recommendations. You'll also collaborate closely with business units to identify technical needs and translate them into actionable development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical expert in non-metallic materials, lubricant chemistry, and refrigerant interactions for product development, reliability, sourcing, and quality projects.
- Partner with business unit engineers to translate chemistry requirements into actionable plans and lead or guide lab execution.
- Design and oversee test plans to validate materials, components, and systems.
- Provide technical leadership in process development, root cause analysis, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Manage multiple long-term and short-term projects, including urgent business unit support needs (e.g., failure analysis, supply chain issues).
- Develop technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and engineering requirements.
- Expand knowledge in advanced sealing and non-metallic material technologies; contribute to future technology roadmaps.
- Build and maintain networks with internal and external subject matter experts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with 10+ years of experience, or Master's/PhD in Chemistry with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong hands-on chemistry skills and ability to lead others; refrigerant and lubricant chemistry knowledge is a plus.
- Fast learner with the ability to adapt to technologies and material challenges.
- Effective problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and integrate solutions into product designs.
- Experience preparing technical reports, patents, publications, and presenting to both internal and external audiences.
- Proficient with lab instrumentation such as GC-MS, ICP, HPLC, FTIR, TGA, DSC.
- Skilled in materials selection, process design, and manufacturing development.
- Willingness to travel up to 15%, including internationally.
