Peterson Cat has a need for an Assistant General Counsel to work onsite at our San Leandro, CA location.
SUMMARY
The Assistant General Counsel serves the Company (including its subsidiaries and affiliates) as in-house counsel and is responsible for providing professional legal advice and representation for operational legal matters, with a heavy focus on customer contracts, throughout the organization.

- Provide legal advice, guidance and support to the Company's business units for operational matters related to customer contracts, including, but not limited to, sales and services agreements, purchase orders, construction bids, reseller and supply agreements
- Review customer contracts and provide feedback relative to legal terms
- Draft contracts or contract language
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Operations team
- Perform legal research and provide legal advice and assistance to other departments
- Manage outside counsel and provide general oversight and organization of their assignments and budget
- Keep abreast of standard practices and trends affecting the company's industries and provide valuable advice and counsel to senior leadership team regarding compliance
- Advise the organization about government regulations and legal rights.
- Understand and be able to translate into “plain English” the legal ramifications of varied legal issues (including regulatory requirements) and clearly and succinctly articulate the risks.
- Examine company's litigation strategy to determine the advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits or other legal actions related to customers and/or customer contracts
QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate Degree from a fully accredited college in Law approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), admitted and in good standing in California; and a minimum of eight (8) years of directly related experience in law; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Experience with construction contracts and bidding process is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Admitted to the bar in California.
- Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and satisfactory driving record.
