Production Control Manager

Summary:

Responsible for coordinating the efficient interaction between customer demand, the supply chain, inventory, factory production schedules and customer shipments. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the factory production schedules, created by the Production Supervisors, to ensure on time delivery. Produce the production schedules in the absence of the Production Supervisor.

  • Work with Production Supervisors to develop accuracy within the APS scheduler.

  • Control the delivery schedule and quantity for all inventory items except mill steel purchases, which are coordinated at the corporate level.

  • Provide guidance and support to the Corporate Purchasing Agent in determining reasonable purchase release quantities for purchased parts pricing quotation purposes.

  • Manage the purchase orders for all production purchased parts. Work with suppliers to develop creative and innovative order replenishment methods that reduce plant inventory levels while maintaining on time customer delivery objectives.

  • Generate the orders to slit master coils into production coils.

  • Coordinate the effective distribution of inter-site inventory orders.

  • Conduct month end cycle counts on coil steel, balance clips and other items as required to maintain inventory accuracy consistent with plant and corporate objectives.

  • Review and provide guidance in the methodology used to enter customer demand into the order entry or forecast module of MFG/PRO with the objective of mitigating the severity of customer order changes and improving the accuracy of forecast data.

  • Develop and maintain processes that provide a high level of inventory accuracy including verification of quantities received and shipped, accurate scrap reporting, effective training on backflush operations, methods of accurately counting parts as they move through an operation, organized and disciplined inventory storage practices, review of product structures to ensure accuracy and completeness, methods of reporting inventory substitutions and cycle counting as required to maintain accurate inventory records. Initiate investigation regarding inventory discrepancies and take corrective action to minimize the possibility of reoccurrence.

  • As the local QAD “expert” the Production Control Manager is responsible for remedying issues that result from either system issues and/or process interface issues (Eagle, Factivity).

  • Advise Customer Service and the Plant Manager when a customer shipment will not ship on time.

  • Produce and maintain process routings in MFG/PRO. Maintain item site MRP data for all components and finished goods parts.

  • Recruit, conduct timely performance reviews, make salary change recommendations, develop employee skills and knowledge and establish standards of performance consistent with plant and corporate objectives. Promote positive employee relations.

  • Assist the Shipping Supervisor to use innovative methods to minimize freight costs, minimize shipping and receiving errors and maximize the efficiencies of loading and unloading freight.

  • Develop reasonable “Days Inventory” goals with year over year improvement strategies. Develop effective systems to monitor and control inventory levels through all stages of the manufacturing process and supply chain.

  • Make recommendations to the Plant Manager regarding process changes, capital purchases, plant layout, personnel and/or other areas that could be changed to effectively reduce inventory levels.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Shipping/Receiving Supervisor and Production Control Assistant

Travel:

Regular overnight travel to customer locations, suppliers, industry seminars and training and other Morrison Products sites is required.Depending on distance, travel could include traveling by air and a rental car.

Confidentiality:

This position includes access and knowledge of customer pricing, product processes and standard costs, component parts cost, income statements and other company financial data, personnel files, salary ranges and corporate strategy.

Experience Required:

Past demonstration through work experience of successfully coordinating production schedules and inventory management. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of relevant previous experience. Experience in the supervision of salary employees is desirable. Past experience working with an enterprise focused, MRP based, resource management system (ERP) is highly recommended.

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
