Arts & Culture Director (Business Operations Manager 2)
Business Oregon, the state's economic development agency, is currently hiring an Arts and Culture Director (Business Operations Manager 2). This position will administer the Arts and Culture programs within Business Oregon and is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and managing staff and operations. The Arts and Culture Director reports directly to the Director of Business Oregon and collaborates with Oregon Arts Commission members and Oregon Cultural Trust Board members appointed by the Governor. The role involves developing a shared vision for the arts and culture division and establishing goals and strategies to promote these sectors.
This position is responsible for shaping the development of arts and cultural programs and initiatives in consultation with the Oregon Arts Commission and the Cultural Trust board.

What you will do :
Develop short- and long-term plans to advance, support, and sustain arts and cultural assets and programs across Oregon, in consultation with the Arts Commission and the Cultural Trust Board. Keep abreast of community, state, and federal developments and trends relevant to the arts sector.Implement state and national policies and practices. Contribute to the formulation of policies and procedures within the framework of state and national policy. Stay informed about developments affecting the arts, and develop plans and guidelines for Commission programs, including education and technical assistance. Initiate policy discussions to connect the arts with community development, education, and cultural initiatives. Provide staff support to cultural development efforts initiated by the Governor's Office.Manage the professional staff, including hiring, planning work, approving assignments, and conducting performance evaluations. Review training plans and expenditure requests to ensure goals are met.Participate as a member of Business Oregon Leadership and Management team, seeking collaboration opportunities between arts and economic development activities.Promote diversity and inclusion within the team, fostering a work environment that values individual and cultural differences, and actively work towards agency affirmative action objectives.Engage with arts and cultural sector leaders and government partners to raise awareness of the Arts Commission and Cultural Trust programs. Serve as a resource to organizations, artists, and communities throughout Oregon.Oversee financial planning and budgeting for the Arts Commission and Cultural Trust, including management of funds from various sources. Supervise grant disbursements and program evaluation.Represent Oregon Arts Commission and Cultural Trust at state, regional, and federal levels. Liaise with entities like the National Endowment for the Arts and promote Oregon artists and organizations nationally.The ideal candidate will possess skills in:
- Sector Knowledge: Advocacy experience for arts and culture sectors at state and national levels, with understanding of community needs.
- Leadership: Ability to create and communicate vision, motivate others, and foster a positive work environment.
- Relationships: Building partnerships and maintaining successful stakeholder relationships.
- Conflict Resolution: Managing conflicts through collaborative discussion and seeking constructive solutions.
- Legislative Knowledge: Understanding of legislative processes and governance.
- Budget/Fundraising: Financial management skills, including cultivating funding partnerships.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including social media.
Qualifications include:
- Six years of supervision, management, or related experience.
- Three years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.
